Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsya used the aging UN Conference Room 1 as a metaphor for what he sees as the institution’s decline, saying both need fundamental renewal. He recalled that the UN emerged from decisions shaped by Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill at Yalta and argued it is no longer a pillar of the world. Kyslytsya questioned whether the next Secretary-General could transform the institution while what he called Moscow’s “criminal regime” continues to undermine the Security Council.
