Former Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi says Russia’s ability to conduct active offensive operations has been largely broken by heavy losses. In his first major interview since leaving office, Syrskyi told the BBC that overall Russian losses currently average five to six times Ukraine’s, while the ratio among those killed reaches eight to 11 to one. He also said Russia’s net territorial gain in the first half of 2026 was 61 square kilometers, arguing that the front had stabilized.
