Ihor Fedirko, executive director of the Ukrainian Council of Weapons Manufacturers, says only up to 25% of Ukraine’s available defense production capacity is contracted as of mid-August. He warns that a pause in contracting now could create a real weapons supply gap within six months, as complex defense products require months for components, production and testing. Russian forces are back inside Kupyansk after Ukrainian troops had initially regained full control of the city and cleared remaining Russian forces from nearby areas. Around 50-100 Russian troops are now present in northern Kupyansk after taking the Spartak area near the stadium, with frequent incursions into the center. Their numbers appear to be growing. Ukraine has stepped up efforts to dislodge them again.
