Ukraine is converting Soviet-era BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance vehicles into remotely controlled robotic platforms for future frontline use. The modernization is being developed for control at distances up to 1,000 km and includes day and night cameras, protected data links, navigation systems and a remote weapon station of at least 12.7 mm. Plans also include a new diesel engine, automatic transmission, improved mine protection, run-flat tires and internal backup controls.
