The EU also agreed last week to finance Patriot systems under its loan supporting Ukraine. Von der Leyen said remaining SAFE funds could support new joint EU-Ukrainian defense projects, including the planned Freya air and missile defense system. The EU has mobilized nearly €15 billion for Ukraine this year.
