Ukraine’s September 15 strike on the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region hit the AVT-6 primary oil processing unit, which was still undergoing repairs following an earlier attack. The blast wave reportedly brought down scaffolding used for restoration work, while technical racks near AVT-6 were also hit. Burn marks and firefighting foam were observed near a key distillation column. Shipping containers have also been positioned around the refinery’s main unit as additional protection.
