The U.S.
The U.S. fights raccoon rabies by dropping fish-flavored vaccine packets from helicopters.Small plastic packets (sachets) containing a live but weakened rabies vaccine (RABORAL V-RG®) are coated in fishmeal or a fish-scented oily substance to attract raccoons. In rural and forested areas, the baits are dropped from low-flying airplanes and helicopters.Raccoons are opportunistic omnivores with a strong sense of smell. The fishmeal coating makes the baits highly appealing to them (and other target wildlife) while being safe if accidentally picked up by pets or humans (though officials advise leaving any found baits alone).Science and facts💡
