Lukashenko called Belarusians “Russians with a mark of quality,” saying some people are offended by the phrase but “you can’t go against history.” He added that Belarusians are “a real nation” that absorbed habits, skills and traditions from the East, Europe and Kyivan Rus. Lukashenko said there is no need to be ashamed of this and that it should be said “as it was.”
