Ukraine's General Staff confirmed that the August 20 strike on Akhtubinsk airfield in Russia's Astrakhan region damaged a Su-34 and caused a fuel spill. The airfield, around 650 km from the frontline, hosts Russia's 929th State Flight Test Center, one of its main facilities for testing and evaluating new military aviation equipment and weapons. Su-34s based there are used for guided bomb strikes against Ukraine.
