An explosion and fire hit the Amur Gas Chemical Complex during commissioning of its pyrolysis unit. The company confirmed 1 death, 19 hospitalizations and 104 outpatient cases, while Russian media report at least 5 dead and more than 130 injured. Residents of nearby Chernigovka had complained of a gas smell for nearly two weeks. On August 13, the complex was fined 50,000 rubles after regulators found problems with explosion protection equipment.
