Zelensky visited a rebuilt school in Kyiv region to welcome first-graders on September 1, but an air raid alert forced the president and children into a shelter. "Even among any enemies there is an understanding that children are children. But the Russians make children participants in the war," he said. Zelensky also criticized the pace of international diplomacy, saying much of Europe and the world helping Ukraine had been "on vacation" for the past two weeks.
