Former Belgorod mayor and ex-deputy governor Konstantin Polezhaev was killed while serving with Russian forces in Ukraine. Polezhaev had been sentenced to five years in a maximum-security penal colony and fined 36 million rubles for corruption before signing a military contract in August 2024.
