Trump had discussed with advisers the possibility of bringing Zelensky and Putin to December’s G20 summit at his Doral golf resort in Florida.According to one adviser, Trump wanted both leaders to arrive ready to make a deal so he could preside over a peacemaking summit. Trump had suggested that such a breakthrough might finally help him win the Nobel Peace Prize. The Atlantic reports that Trump maintained this view of Zelensky even though Putin had declined to commit to resuming peace talks during his recent call with the US president. Zelensky had said he would attend the G20 and hoped to meet Putin there.
