An explosion hit the Kosogorsky Metallurgical Plant in Tula, a historic metallurgy enterprise founded in 1897. The plant produces high-purity pig iron, ferromanganese and castings, and operates three blast furnaces. While the facility does not directly assemble weapons, it is part of the upstream supply chain for Russia's defense-industrial sector, providing specialized metals and ferroalloys used in engineering and arms production. The latest blast was reportedly caused by internal technical problems and ignition of blast-furnace gas.
