The FP-5 Flamingo deserves a more balanced assessment than simply calling it a failure.Yes, its interception rate and effectiveness should be scrutinized. But Fire Point developed it under extreme wartime pressure, without state financing, on compressed timelines and with minimal European assistance. And it still achieved notable results. Two FP-5s struck the Titan-Barrikady defense plant in Volgograd, a strategic facility linked to launchers and components for systems including Iskander-M, Yars and Topol-M. Flamingos also hit the main production building at VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary. That does not make Flamingo perfect. But dismissing the program because missiles were intercepted ignores what Ukraine actually achieved: an indigenous long-range cruise missile that successfully reached important Russian defense-industrial targets deep behind the front.
